SQL Query Analyzer by Microsoft Corporation is a classic tool for writing, executing, and tuning Transact-SQL (T-SQL) against Microsoft SQL Server. Bundled with SQL Server 7.0 and 2000, it provides a fast, streamlined environment to develop queries, inspect results, and diagnose performance issues.

Key features:

  • Interactive T-SQL editor with syntax coloring, code templates, and an object browser
  • Execution of queries and stored procedures with results in grid or text, plus detailed messages
  • Estimated and actual execution plans in graphical or text form for performance analysis
  • I/O and timing statistics to help pinpoint bottlenecks
  • T-SQL debugging to step through stored procedures (available in SQL Server 2000)
  • Integration with the Index Tuning Wizard to generate indexing recommendations
  • Support for connecting to different SQL Server instances and switching databases per session

Note: SQL Query Analyzer has been superseded by SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) starting with SQL Server 2005, but it remains a familiar, lightweight option in legacy environments.

SQL Query Analyzer is developed by Microsoft. The most popular version of this product among our users is 8.0. The names of program executable files are isqlw.exe, SQLQueryAnalyzer.exe.
